Commencing July 2021 as a combination of online and face-to-face classes over the
course of a year, this long-established program provides an excellent grounding
in 8 Shaft Handloom Weaving and Design.

Bookings are now open for those who have completed the 4 Shaft year or
have sufficient 4 shaft weaving experience.
Tutor: Ilka White
The course combines thorough weave theory, practical design skills and
experimental approaches. Superb tuition in 8 Shaft Weaving, covering
traditional structures and contemporary applications. Gain experience
combining yarns, altering setts and appropriately finishing fabrics.

Delivery mode:
7 face-to-face days throughout the year in the Guild Rooms, 655 Nicholson Street Carlton North .
2021: Saturday July 24 - 10.30am-5pm then Sundays - July 25 , October 24, December 5 from 9.30am-4pm
2022: Sundays February 6, April 3, June 5 from 9.30am-4pm
Fortnightly Online classes - Sundays 10 - 12.
2021: August 8, August 22, September 5, September 19, October 10, November 7, November 21.
2022: January 30, February 20, March 6, March 20, April 24, May 15, May 22. Final Project and complete Folio due July 24.
Course Content:
Introduction to Multi-Shaft Weaving, 8 shaft Twill theory and variations, Brocade theory and design, Damask design and pick up, 2 block Double Cloth, 6 block Summer and Winter, Waffle, Huck Laces,
Colour & Weave, Deflected weaves and Pique.
Exploration of Yarn, Fibres, and Finishes.
Design, Costing and production of an 8 shaft article.
Assessment includes Woven Samples 50% and a Technical Folio 50%.
Course cost includes loom hire and provision of most yarns:
Members $1800 and non members $1950.
Members - deposit $600 -$200 on booking, $200 1st April, and $200 on 15th June
General Public - deposit $750.00- $250 on booking, $250 1st April, and $250 on 15th June
Balance $1200.00 payable by 3x quarterly instalments of $400 or 8 monthly instalments of $150
Please note: This course does not carry accreditation, however participants are asked to undertake genuine commitment to completion of all topics and submission of a folio including theory, woven samples and final project.

Cancellations and refunds
The Guild reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient numbers. If we cancel the workshop you will be notified and will be issued with a 100% refund.
If you decide to withdraw 7 or more days prior to the workshop/course date the Guild will retain a 10% administration fee.
If you decide to withdraw less than 7 days before the workshop/course date the Guild will retain 100% of your workshop fee.
No refunds for missed classes.
